A wifi hotspot is a portable wifi router that can be used to connect a smartphone, tablet or laptop to the internet.

How do I check out a wifi hotspot? 

Use the online catalog, call any of our locations or visit us in person to place a hold on a wifi hotspot. Once a wifi hotspot becomes available, you will be able to pick it up at the location you specified. 

Who can check out a wifi hotspot? 

Any adult library card holder with a full-privilege account in good standing. If you don’t have a library card, you can apply in person at one of our library locations. BConnectED, juvenile, courtesy cards and eCards are not eligible. 

How long can I keep a hotspot? 

You can borrow a wifi hotspot for six weeks. Overdue wifi hotspots will have internet access deactivated within 48 hours beyond their due date. 

Where can I return a wifi hotspot? 

A wifi hotspot may be returned to any of our locations. They can be returned in book drops. You must return the device with all the original packaging and accessories. Please fully charge the battery before you return the device. 

Can I renew a wifi hotspot? 

Wifi hotspots cannot be renewed at this time. 

What if the device is lost, stolen, or damaged? 

Please report the lost, stolen or damaged device to any of our libraries. You may still be responsible for the $85 replacement fee. 

How much does the wifi hotspot cost? 

Borrowing and using the device is free! However, it is still subject to our Circulation of Library Materials policy. 

What if I need help with a wifi hotspot? 

If you need help using a wifi hotspot, contact any of our libraries during open hours. 

Can I use the hotspot when I travel outside the United States? 

The wifi hotspots work in the U.S. and may work in Canada and Mexico. They do not work outside of North America. 

Can I use the hotspot to make phone call or send/receive text messages? 

No, the hotspots can only be used to connect to your wifi enabled device such as laptops, smartphones and tablets. 

Is there any data limit? 

In general there is no data limit. However, the service provider may lower speed or limit the amount of data that its network can handle for a short time. 

If the wifi hotspot prompts me to update software or firmware, what should I do? 

The wifi hotspot periodically receives software updates from the service provider. You can accept the update, which may take a few minutes. 

Is information about my internet usage tracked by the Library or the service provider? 

BPL does not have access to or collect specific usage data and does not provide patron information to the service provider. 

Will I be asked for my personal information when I browse the internet using the wifi hotspot? 

BPL will not ask you any information when you browse the internet using the wifi hotspot. Content is not filtered by the wifi hotspots.
